American Reporters get 12 years in N. Korea Labor camps

June 8th, 2009 | Filed Under: Uncategorized | No Comments

For article: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/06/08/nkorea.journalists/index.html

I can’t wait to see how this plays out. How will the Unite States government react? The families of these reporters want our government to take action. My question is why. These reporters willingly put themselves in harm’s way. They knew that if they got caught crossing into North Korea they would face grave consequences. They did this for a noble cause, to show the world what defectors go through in order to escape North Korea. So because they’re Americans and their cause was noble they shouldn’t face the same fate as others?

Americans and non Americans get sick of how we try to police the world. We strong-arm nations into doing what we want. The Obama administration has made it very clear that we need to eradicate this image. I highly doubt North Korea will free the journalist; they want to make an example out of them.  America will have to do something radical in order to get these journalists back. So are we willing to sacrifice our improving self image in order to rescue the journalists?

I know this is harsh and cold hearted but when you look at the facts we shouldn’t take any actions. Any actions taken will show the world once again that we think we can do whatever we please. The world will have a negative image of the US once again if actions are taken. Especially in the Muslim world were progress has just begun.

Here are some clips from the President making a speech to the Muslim world. Some people didn’t like that he reference lines from the Koran. I didn’t think it was a problem, but that is just me.

Is Sotomayor a racist?

May 31st, 2009 | Filed Under: Uncategorized | No Comments

Is Sotomayor a racist?  This is a statement that a growing amount of Republicans would have you believe.  So let’s look at this, let’s see if this Hispanic woman is really a racist.

What’s in question is a quote taken from a 2001 speech she gave at the University of California Berkeley. The quote is “I would a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Now, what she was alluding to is the fact that nobody can judge or really understand a person if they haven’t lived that life. That’s a simple fact. Who knows more about life from a white man’s point of view than a white man? Just for that simple reason a Country as diverse as ours needs people of different backgrounds and ethnicities making legal decisions that affect US ALL. One example is, maybe a more even court would finally address the unfairness in drug convictions. Why is it that in some states the possession of .5g of crack carries the same penalty as up to 28g of cocaine? Could it be the difference in the colors of the users? Now that may not be the best example, but it’s an example nonetheless. It would have been one thing if Sotomayor had said “I think a Latina woman knows more than a white man.”  That would be a racist statement,  but that is not the context of her statement. Regardless of what Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity want people to think. What do you all think?

$$$ Gas $$$

May 28th, 2009 | Filed Under: economy | No Comments

Its summer and with the usual BBQ’s and summer vacations comes high gas prices.  I wont go into a long rant about how we need to find alternatives to fossil fuels and use newer forms of technology to power our vehicles and homes.

I understand that when it is summer time oil companies raise gas prices because they know people want to travel and it takes gas to get them to their destination.  It is what it is.  What bothers me is that oil companies always find some excuse as to why they have to raise the price of oil when summer hits; there is either a shortage or speculators are raising up the price.  If they want to raise the price oil for more profits just say so; dont give us a b.s. excuse.  Sometimes I think they hired James Harrison as their spokesperson (He declined to go the White House because the President is not a Steelers Fan)

Swine Flu

April 27th, 2009 | Filed Under: Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Could the swine flu be a pandemic? Numbers don’t lie just putting the facts out there.

When you look at the numbers it’s pretty startling. Eighty one deaths in Mexico are “linked” to the swine flu as of Friday April 24th. All of these deaths have occurred within that week. As of today the death toll has reached 102. Around 1,300 people are believed to be infected by this strain (numbers vary depending on news source) All of these individuals had your typical flu like symptoms. Most of these individuals were healthy young adults, unlike similar cases were children and the elderly are only susceptible. It has been confirmed that the US and Mexico cases are from the same strain of this virus. These numbers have already toppled any outbreak in North America that has happened in recent years. The bird flu and west Nile virus aren’t even worth mentioning. With this high mortality rate do you think it will turn into a pandemic?

Right man for the right job

First I should say I’m happy that the Capt. of the Maersk Alabama is home safe.  Now, we should look at the reason he was able to go home in the 1st place.  Aside from the NAVY Seals of course, I think a lot of credit is due to our President.  For one, he didn’t publicize or politicize this whole ordeal, even as we learn that his involvement ran deeper than once thought.  I wonder how he felt, knowing he was getting briefings several times a day while being criticized in the media by people who weren’t doing anything in their power to free the hostage.   Oh well, who cares? Because we know one thing for sure, this is a political W for the young President.  We all know how an unforeseen military situation can hurt a fledgling administration (especially that of a “liberal anti-war Democrat”).  Just look back to President Clinton and the Black Hawk Down situation in 1993, or look back to JFK with the Bay of Pigs in 1961.  Both of these setbacks happened within six months of inauguration and cast immediate doubt on those Presidents, and truth be told, one misplaced shot in the dark,or miscalculation and Obama is the goat.  So understanding that, it makes his decision to authorize deadly force all the more awe-inspiring.  I guess what I’m trying to say is this situation, coupled with Obama’s success on the world stage, and his approach to leading so far has me thinking he’s the right man for the right job.  Regardless of what the pundits, or armchair patriots say.  But who knows? I could be wrong….

Separation of Church & State(Or lack Thereof)

April 12th, 2009 | Filed Under: Uncategorized | 2 Comments

I’m sure you all have read or heard about the recent dustup regarding President Obama and Notre Dame.  Ahh, where to start?  For starters, this is why the 1st Amendment is such a hot button of controversy.  What I will say, is those who want Notre Dame to rescind Obama’s invitation, do their cause a great disservice by exhibiting such intolerance.  I mean how can one oppose Obama on moral grounds, but accept President Bush on moral grounds?  If you say you are against abortion and stem cell research, shouldn’t you also be against war, and capitol punishment?  Shouldn’t you want to help the less fortunate and the sick?  I say this because if you really look at it (at least from a policy standpoint), Obama’s policies line up more with the church then Bush’s or the average republican for that matter.  I’ll save abortion and stem cell research for another post, because that’s a whole other topic.  But some have gotten so caught up with certain polarizing issues that they fail to see when the argument has been turned into nothing but contradictions, and fallacies.

Recession hits fast food menus in America

Recession hits fast food

Quizno’s torpedo’s 4$ (not worth it)

-          This thing is a joke. It’s meant to be advertised as a value item. Getting a lot for your dollar. This is a lie. The subway 5$ footlong will remain the most dominant healthy fast food option. They can advertise it for its ciabbatta bread and that’s about it.

Wendy’s Jr. Cheeseburger (I’ll never will go to Wendy’s again!)

-          This is all I have to say in every picture of a Wendy’s burger the beef patty is larger than the bun. You can clearly see the meat hanging over the bun in every picture! This burger shows the complete opposite. The beef patty is literally smaller then the size of a post it note (3in X 3in). Not to mention it’s less than a centimeter thick. This thing is pathetic its half of the size of the item it’s replaced.  It looks more like a breakfast sausage patty instead. I have photo documentation.  I know the lost a lot of customer’s with this stunt.

McDonalds McDouble (Smart move!)

-          Mcdonalds did exactly what you suppose to do so the consumer doesn’t feel betrayed. Due to the recession the McDouble has replaced the Double cheeseburger on the value menu. The double cheeseburger is still available but not for 1$. If you only want to spend 1$ you can get the McDouble. When the McDouble replaced the Double cheeseburger on the menu I asked an employee what’s the difference. I was told that you only get 1 slice of cheese instead of the 2 slices in the double cheeseburger. The McDouble doesn’t have the slice between the beef patties.  I ended up getting the McDouble because I’m not big on cheese anyway. McDonalds made a very smart decision with this one. By keeping the product they had, raising the price and making a comparable product at the old price they made the best decision.

My issue with the fast food restaurants is how they change the product but don’t change the name. If you need to downsize the product please change the name! Or increase the price of the item. Of course it would be best to have a comparable replacement at the pre recession price. Don’t try to trick the consumer and think they won’t notice.
